Al Galpin Second Hand Songs
Al “Bear” Galpin is a Podcaster & Radio Presenter from Southampton. He got his radio start at Southampton Hospital Radio before studying Radio Production at University, helping to set up a new student radio station and presenting on local commercial radio in the North West of England.
Cover versions have long been a musical passion of Al’s, and he says that getting to bring you his favourites and discover new covers through Second Hand Songs is a real delight.
He’s also the founder of SuperPod: The Charity Podcast Festival, which raises money for Comic Relief every year. Outside of audio-stuff he’s a keen Southampton FC and Boston Red Sox fan, and a Pointless finalist. He’s keen on comics, country music and chocolate as well as burgers, bunnies and bourbon. And apparently alliteration
Al Smart Easy Sunday
After a lifelong interest in radio broadcasting, especially those based on ships and abandoned wartime forts, I started as a volunteer presenter, engineer and fundraiser with Carillon Radio (a hospital radio station) in 2007. To record programmes meant a weekly trip to the Loughborough studios, but as I was self employed at the time, it was not always convenient. Coming from an engineering background, I subsequently discovered that I could record programmes from home relatively easily. I started recording programmes from home a year or so later and have carried on ever since.
I left Carillon Radio after a couple of years and ventured into the big wide world of internet radio. My main signature programme back then was “Easy Sunday”, and it continues through to today. A wide variety of music from the 1950’s to the present day, together with a number of features to keep you entertained. Hope you like it.

Geoff Wood The Time of Our Music Life

I have been interested in music as long as I can remember, collecting vinyl over the years to the point that storage became a problem! I ran my own business for 20 years and retired in 2021 moving to live in Lanzarote where we have owned a house since 2007. After moving to Lanzarote I volunteered as a presenter on whitebeachradio.online a community station here in Lanzarote and that is where The Time Of Our Music Life was "born"
